Department of Physics:

VISION:

● To make youth of this area more discipline, more responsible, self reliant and enlightened citizens of this Nation through quality of higher education by “Basic knowledge and applications of physics”.

MISSION:

• To serve the people of this area by becoming a leading education programmer in physics through “Innovative and creative advances of physics in solving social problems in human health, environment, agricultural, industries, science and technology etc.”

Introduction:

Physics department was started since its inception of the institution, 1968 and Late Sri A. B. Mullur, was the first Head of the Physics Department. Along with him the following staff members were made efforts for the development and improvement of the Department.
Sri V. H. Ayyannavar (Retired)
Sri M. S. Uppin (Retired)
Dr. B. S. Makal (Retired)
Dr. M. S. Jogad (Retired)
Sri R. D. Balikile (Retired)
Dr. B. G. Evale (Retired)

Since 1968 the college was affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad. Gulbarga University was established in the year 1981, after then it is affiliated to Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. In the beginning Physics subject started as Minor subject, later on we have started as Major subject. In 1986, Gulbarga University has introduced a new system called as all the three subjects of equal importance and students are having an opportunity to take admission any one of the three subjects. Now at present the college is affiliated to Bidar University Bidar was established in the year 2023.

Objective of the Department:

The department initiated innovative methods to teach physics for all students who have taken physics as one of the subject in B.Sc. course(NEP/SEP). The teachers who are working in the department encourage the student to learn physics as an important subject in their course. The department conducts seminars, interactions and giving home assignments to students, Teachers advise the students to participate in different competition like quiz, elocution, debate, science exhibition. Our students participated in inter college/University and state level science exhibition.

Students are also advised to join actively in NCC and NSS.

The department is adopting new techniques towards the development of students communication skill and personality development. Though this area is considered as backward but the students are not lacking in studying physics as one of the optional subject.

At present the department is lead by Dr. Vijaykumar B Assistant Professor along with the following members;
